The aim of the course is for students to acquire necessary knowledge on principles of microbiology and basic pathogenic microorganisms that infect people, focusing on bacteria and infections of the genital system that are related to their field of specialty. Students will be able to use the acquired knowledge to inform people on prevention measures in order to have an impact on the improvement of public health by reducing infections and their consequences in humans.

Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to:

  • Indicate the most common virulence factors that infect different body systems, mainly the reproductory system.
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of infection.
  • Explain the effect of infection on humans.
  • Apply and suggest protection measures against pathogenic microorganisms in order to minimize the dissemination of infection by and to the patients.
  • Be aware of Infection Prevention and Control for women and newborns, health workers or/ and healthcare settings.
